SFR QIII-H&R Tactics and strategy
There are many different strategies to becomming an awesome QIII-H&R player here are some pointers:
- Dont use hook over long distances.
- You become very visible. (unless narrow hallway)
- Enemy knows where you are heading. (release 1/2 way or earlier depending on speed. Hook multiple times to get to desired location)
- When you hook and are waiting to get pulled dont stand around .. KEEP MOVING you are not immune while hook is streching
- When you hook a far distance and see there is no one there STOP staring in the same direction turn around while being pulled on hook to make sure no one is following you.
- Although catapults and bouncy things can get you from point a to b and provide you a nice view of all players but beware:
- Easily predictable path a skilled player will predict your path and shoot you in the air.
- Rail basics.
- a RAIL is not a BFG of a rocket dont aim at feet its useless epecially if opponent jumps, aim around shoulder area this way if oponent jumps you might hit them in the legs.
- When you fall of a space map consider.
- Am I gonna waste more time getting up and thus loosing valuable frag time?
- When you fall it is sometimes better to do /kill then try to climb out so bind /kill to some key close by your keyboard hand
- Futile fight dont you hate when you are way close to someone and are shooting with no hits these futile duels can waste a lot of time
- Try concentrating on one good shot than clicking mouse wildly
- Dont follow player with crosshair from behind his run but anticipate and keep it in front of him.. let him run into your crosshair
- Put crosshair close behind him and then strafe with him/her this way you match the opponents speed making it much easier to get a clean shot. notice reflexes come into play here you are also making his shot easier by doing this so make sure you are prepared to take the shot (is slug rady to use in rail is your crosshair close)
- when you strafe back and fort try to break your rythm.. this seems like a easy thing to do but in the heat of a fierce fight can be a nightmare. if you are repetive then you are predictable and thus dead
- Are you on a platform? back up strafe and jump of the platform hook around to a better location maybe from behind the opoent?
- while a regular strafe jump migh provide you with a nice even motion and a nice elevation to see you oppenent bette it also exposes you and makes your path predictable
- The Flying Target, tactics for shooting someone on a catapult/bouncer.
- Remember when a player is on a bouncer/catapult he/she will have the most predictable path ever. For best results aim at the peak of the jump (when the player has reached the top and is about to drop.) It is at this time that the target, I mean opponent will spend the most time in the same area.
- When you see that the opponent strafed onto a catapult and is not paying attention to you align yourself on his flying path and shoot. This technique is especially usefull on q3dm17.
- SFR style:
- Are you being followed on a closed map? run around the corner turn around hook the top inner corner of the ceiling of you and your opoenent and wait untill he/she follows you into the fly trap d:
- Do you know your way around try this [refer to diagram below] instead of going head on head cobat use your hook and take the corridor on your left then hook the other corridor through first pass your oponent might think you are setting a flytrap so he will be hessitant to follow you around the corner without thinking 2ice during his hesitation he'll get railed in the back by you. Doing this you are also minimizing of being cought in crossfire by a possible attacker that migh come from left

- if you meet someone in a SMALL corridor with no escape and a futile fight is about to enage (suicide) try hooking yourself over the opponent using the ceiling (only if its low) shoot him before you land else you'll get a warm and fuzzy feeling as the rail impacts you and get ripped into pieces
- It is also always fun to greet/grunt a lot in the game. Um I mean not always but when you are 0wning. For me that is often the same thing d:.
- It is much easier to shoot down from a high platform them up from a low platform. When on a high platform you can use the edge of the platform to hide and jump up in order to see and shoot over the edge.
